DYV Membership Agreement
This Membership Agreement (“Agreement”), when executed by the applicant and accepted by Drink Your Values (“DYV”), constitutes a binding agreement between DYV and the individual or entity (“Member”) executing and acknowledging this Agreement. DYV and Member may hereinafter be jointly referred to as “Parties”.
- Purpose, History, and Values:
The purpose of DYV is to support community organizing and social justice movements by building a grassroots consumer base through the sale of great beer and other beverages. The idea for this project started in 2013 at a staff retreat of community organizers and social justice movement leaders. We were drinking beer and talking about the hamster wheel of non-profit fundraising and the over-dependence of progressive groups on philanthropy and the whims of big donors. We started talking about why social entrepreneurship often fails to brainstorm ideas about how to breakthrough. There were many ideas. But one stuck. Social Justice Craft Beer.
DYV believes in the simple organizing axiom that “everyday people, given the opportunity, can do extraordinary things.” We seek to support grassroots organizations that are building a transformative base of power for the purpose of achieving social, racial and economic justice. We seek to support community organizing, civil engagement, leadership training and movement building work.
- The Beer:
DYV is amazing craft beer made in Northeast Ohio with our partner brewery Modern Methods, a small family owned and local brewery based in Warren, Ohio. Together, we’ve developed exclusive recipes of great tasting beer – and each kind of beer supports a different social justice cause. Our beer is currently on tap and in limited release cans at the Battleground, a social justice taproom, in Kent, Ohio.
- Our Strategy:
DYV’s goal is to generate revenue for social justice causes. Our strategy is to offer a portfolio of craft beer each tailored to support a specific cause, organization, event, or campaign. Some beers will be year round, such as our Election Day IPA with proceeds supporting voter registration. Other beers will be seasonal supporting a particular project or strategy such as a ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage or rapid response funds to support families being separated at the border.

That being said, we are deeply committed to getting the majority of the profits back out the door. That is the whole point of this project!
- Our Team:
The social justice beer project, DYV – Drink Your Values, was started by veteran community organizer Kirk Noden. In the last twenty-two years, Kirk has successfully built community organizations in Chicago, Birmingham, England, and across Ohio. These organizations have worked on numerous issues ranging from improving education, to ending gun violence, to securing fair and affordable housing, to raising the wages of retail workers. DYV is a way for everyday people to invest in social, racial, and economic justice work by simply being a consumer. And our brewery partner, Modern Methods, which is co-owned by former community organizer Adam Keck, makes the best beer in Northeast Ohio.
